Today I've got several scrapbook spreads that started with this Scrapbooking Workshop Kit from Stampin' Up! called Weekend Adventures. It includes instructions for creating these three double-page spreads about being in the "great outdoors":
This post shows my finished pages.
Project 1: The first in the instruction sheet is the 2nd one you see above. Here's how I made mine:
I apologize about the photos - I hadn't realized I'd cut part of them off, but you can see most of it. I made a lot of changes here. I rotated both layouts by 90 degrees. Because of that I chose to make the patterned papers the same size instead of having one smaller as in the original. I flipped title and journaling from one page to the other - and put the last page first. So - lots of changes. Here are some closeups.
I couldn't overlap all three photos because the one in the upper right is a flip flap. And, since quite a few of the embellishments didn't fit my theme, I changed a lot of the embellishing as well. Here's what it looks like with the flip flap open:
Here's the companion page:
Again there had to be changes because one of my photos was horizontal, some embellishments didn't work for the theme, and rotating the sketch forced some changes in general. Again, the photo in the upper corner was a flip flap. Here's what it looks like when open:
Project 2: The 2nd project in the instruction sheet was the first one in the picture above. Mine were really made as two separate pages since they document different events.
Here is what my first page looks like:
I rotated the picture block by 90 degrees because most of my photos were landscape. I also flipped the bottom two photos because of the way people were facing. With these changes, my embellishing had to change as well - to say nothing of the fact that some of the suggested pieces didn't fit with the theme.
I used a couple of flip flaps that open to show more content - including my journaling:
And here's the 2nd of those two pages.
This time I rotated the entire page by 90 degrees. My photo is much larger, so once again required quite a few changes to the layout. You'll notice that I chose to remove the green pieces and focus on the blue and beige since there wasn't much green in the photo. And, of course, embellishments changed due to the theme of the page.
Project #3: For this one I had a lot of extra photos I wanted to include, so I used a gatefold page protector that I've had in my stash for years. The gatefold again required changes. Here's what mine looks like with the gatefold closed:
And here's what the gatefold page looks like when opened:
Here's a closer look at the first page:
Much of it is the same as the original. I DID make several changes. With all the white around my title and journaling, I decided it looked best to have the lower part out of white rather than Very Vanilla. I also added a partial 4th line of rectangles. Again, my picture is larger. AND, since this was about Noah's ark, I just HAD to have some animals - so went though my stash to find some (even though some are a bit more "cutsy" than I would have preferred. Then I went through and found other embellishment pieces that would work with this page.
You may note near the top of the page is a piece that says "pull". Here's what you find when you pull on that tab:
The brochure fits in a pocket I created behind the page to hold it.
Here's the outside of the gate fold:
Obviously I made a lot of changes to this page. It doesn't look much like the original at all. I needed to make sure the pages would stretch to allow for the inside of the gate fold. Once again, I added a couple animals - and other pieces from the kit that went okay with the theme. Most of the chevrons were from the kit, but I cut a few extra to use here and on the inside.
Here's the inside of the first flap:
And the inside center:
And finally, the inside of the last flap.
As always, I would love to have you choose me (Cheryl Manley) as YOUR demonstrator when purchasing from Stampin' Up! I will receive a small commission on such a purchase, but it will not affect the price you pay. It just helps support this blog.
