This blog is for sharing a love of paper crafting. I love paper crafting -
and Stampin' Up! products in particular -
and became an independent Stampin' Up!®™ demonstrator early in 2025.
I'd love to be YOUR demonstrator as you buy your Stampin' Up! products.
Full disclosure: I get a small commission on purchases made
using Stampin' Up! links from this website, but this in no way affects your price.
It just serves to help support this blog. Thank you in advance for that support!

Hot Foiled Magic

Do you like the papers that have gorgeous foiled elements on them?  Today's cards make use of Stampin' Up!s new Hot Foil System for making our own foiled embellishments and focals!!!  SO EASY, and SO COOL!  You can see how I made the Hot Foiled elements here:

And how I created the cards here:

Below are closeups of the cards and a quick look at how I made them.

Card #1: Faux Cutaway Card

This card was made using the following materials:

  • Hot Foiling System
  • Lustrous Leaves Hot Foil Die set
  • Sweetly Sentimental Hot Foil Die set
  • Reverse Hot Foil Die
  • Gold Foil Rolls
  • Very Vanilla Cardstock: 4 1/4" x 11" for card base (scored at 1 3/4" and 7 1/4") and 2 1/2" x 3" for focal.
  • Pecan Pie Two-Toned Cardstock: 3 5/8" x 4 1/8" piece with center cut out (leaving 3/4" frame - center used for foiling the leaf sprig).
  • Luxe Foliage DSP: 1 5/8" x 4 1/8" and 1/2" x 4 1/8"
  • Hot Foiled Pieces: Gold leaves on two-tone Pecan Pie cardstock (using Lustrous Leaves Hot Foil Die set with Gold Foil roll), and reverse foiled sentiment piece (using Sweetly Sentimental Hot Foil Dies & the Reverse Hot Foil Die with gold foil roll).
  • Flower Accents
  • Glue and Mini Stampin' Dimensionals
After scoring the card base, I folded along those lines and creased well.  I started by adding my designer series paper piece - the larger one on the folded up small section and the narrow one below the other crease (see picture below of the open card). Then I folded up the lower piece and glued it to the inside of the card leaving just the large flap free.

I glued the Very Vanilla cardstock to the Pecan Pie frame piece & then embossed it using the Changing Leaves Hybrid embossing folder without the cutting dies.  I glued this embossed piece to the outside of the large flap (see picture above).  I glued the foiled leaves to the center of the embossed piece, then added the sentiment using Mini Stampin' Dimensionals. Finally, I added 3 of the flower accent pieces.

Card #2: Cut-Turn-Gap Card

This card was made using the following materials:

  • Basic White cardstock: narrow 3/4" strip and piece that is 4 1/4" x 11".
  • Early Espresso two-toned cardstock: two pieces that are 1 3/4" x 5 1/2", and more for foiling a set of leaves (using Lustrous Leaves Hot Foil Dies) and the sentiment (Sweetly Sentimental Hot Foil Dies).
  • Cajun Craze two-toned cardstock: enough to foil a set of leaves (Lustrous Leaves)
  • Basic Beige two-toned cardstock: enough to foil a set of leaves (Lustrous Leaves)
  • Gathering Together DSP: 2 pieces - each cut 1 5/8" x 4 1/8"
  • Gold Hot Foil Roll

I started by scoring the 4 1/4" x 11" piece at 5 1/2".  With piece in landscape mode, I cut a 1 3/4" piece off, then cut off another piece that was 2" wide.  While for this type of card I usually decorate before gluing it together, this time is different.  I started by gluing the 2" wide piece sideways - gluing just on the two ends to hold the 1 3/4" piece to the rest of the card - being careful to make sure no stray glue could hold the card closed.

I glued the two rectangular Early Espresso pieces to the two sides of the card front - then added the patterned paper pieces to each.  I created a cluster of leaves on the card front, using glue and Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.  I glued the sentiment piece to the 3/4" wide piece of white - then trimmed the ends to match the angle of the sentiment and added it with Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.

I used many of the remaining leaves to decorate the inside of the card.

Extra Card:

Here's an extra card made with the materials I had out.  This time I used no foiled pieces except the designer series paper - again the Gathering Together DSP.  I again started with a piece of Basic White that was 4 1/4" x 11".  After scoring in half, I cut the card front in half and turned the piece sideways.  I decorated the pieces before gluing the piece sideways to the left side.  I used Early Espresso cardstock to mat my DSP papers and die cut the sentiment using Alphabet A La Mode dies.  I glued the alphabet pieces to white cardstock and fussy cut around them to create the card you see here.
