Today I made three different fun fold cards – they are “cutaway” cards where part of the card front is cut away. Here's a video showing how I made two of them:
I’ll be using papers from a previous Product of the Month called Painted Illusions, and the very pretty pearlescent Pastels Shimmer paper. I’ll also be using several older stamp and die sets from my stash – one of which is the fun Notes & Totes dies that are on Last Chance sale as I write this.
Card #1: Cutaway with Latch
Here I made my card base using Flirty Flamingo cardstock. I made it like a normal card - then simply cut 3/4" off the right side of the card FRONT. I saved that cutaway portion to use on the inside of my card. Then I scored the inside of the card right along that cutaway line (don't crease this score line!). This allows it to bend easily, to unlatch my card.
Next, I cut my pretty paper into pieces and matted each on white - one for the card front - and a narrow strip for the inside where the card was cut away. I also added a white panel on the inside behind the card front and decorated it with leftover pieces from the card base and the patterned paper.
Next, I stamped pieces for my focal - using Gray Granite and Flirty Flamingo inks and stamps from the Crafting with You set. I added a bit more color with Flirty Flamingo Stampin' Blends. Then I die cut the pieces using the coordinating die set. I glued the brushes to the back of the basket to make it look like they were inside of it.
I made a "rug" using a small piece of Gray Granite cardstock. I embossed it with the Metal Plate 3D embossing folder, added a light touch of Gray Granite ink to the raised areas, then die cut it using the next to smallest die from the Textured Notes die set. I glued my "rug" and easel to the card front.
For the "latch" to hold the card closed, I added the basket of brushes with Stampin' Dimensionals on just the right side of the basket to attach to just the right side of the card. Don't get adhesive on the card front itself! That's it for card #1!
Card #2: Cutaway Easel
This card folds flat for mailing, but can be opened up to display like this:
This time the card base was made with white cardstock. Again it started as a normal A2-sized card. This time I cut away 3/4" on each side of the card FRONT. I used one of those cut away pieces to create my sentiment (stamped with Pool Party ink using a stamp from Lovely Garden stamp set and die cut with a die from Changing Leaves die set). I scored the remaining center section in half horizontally at 2 1/8" to create the easel portion of the card. I cut pieces from my patterned paper to decorate the sides and background of the easel.
For the focal, I started with a piece of Basic Beige cardstock and stamped it with a stamp from Notes and Totes to create a beachy look. Then I cut a bunch of shells and starfish - using dies from Notes and Totes - out of the Pastels Shimmer papers. Using glue and Mini Stampin' Dimensionals, I created the focal on the beachy background - adding sentiment and various shells & starfish.
On the inside of the card, I created an easel stopper using one of the shells on Stampin' Dimensionals. Then I added a couple of extra starfish to finish the inside of my card. This leaves plenty of room for my message.
Card #3: Basic Cutaway (on both sides)
Here I cut narrow strips of the card front away on both sides. The sides have one side of the patterned paper showing (and the "Stampin' Up!" catalog is showing part of that same side), while the center portion shows the other side of the patterned paper. I actually used dies from three different sets to make this card - Notes & Totes (on last chance sale) for the basic tote bag & catalog, Crafting with You (discontinued) for the ruler, scissors, and paper trimmer, and Trusty Tools (on last chance sale) for the pencils.
I hope you enjoyed these projects today. I am an independent Stampin' Up! demonstrator, and I would love to have you choose me (Cheryl Manley) as YOUR demonstrator when purchasing from Stampin' Up! I will receive a small commission on such a purchase, but it will not affect the price you pay. As a thank you for your purchase, (assuming you allow it), your first purchase with me each month will qualify you to receive a pdf of that month's class - emailed to the e-mail address you list when ordering from Stampin' Up! Have a great day!
